| | | Newport Rhode Island Is Wonderful | | Newport, Rhode Island is amazing, from the bridge that carries you over to the beautiful water thatlies beneath. It was breathtaking. The first glimpse of the bridg hypnotized me. As the car began to climb I felt like I was on a rler coaster as it climbs up the steep hill then drops you to the bottom. Unlike a roller coaaster there was no drop, just theother side of the bridge and miles of beautiful blue water and gorgeous homes.Very nice place. | |
| | | Newport Oregon Agate Beach | | My most favorite time is spent at the beach front in my old hometown of Newport. I'd take my friends there after school with their surf boards tied to the top of my VW and the guys would go surfing while us girls would do some beach combing near the ocean. There are many agates (chalcedony quartz) to be found on the beaches of Newport. They come in all sorts of colors, shapes and sizes. This is why one of the most visited beach is called Agate Beach. I would find these semi precious gemstones and give them out to friends as good luck rocks. Recently, after dating my boyfriend for two years, I figured something else to do with these agates that I had found from Newport. Since he owned a rock tumbler, I can now shine them up, make them round and smooth and sell them over a website. The fancy and sagenite agates are the easiest to find. The pink and blue ones are rare so if you find pink agates or blue ones you definately found a treasure worth showing off. The tunnel leading down to the picnic area of Agate Beach used to be for the farmers to lead their cattle to the waterfront. It is a great place to find some seashells and parts of driftwood. There are many kite... | |
| | Other Music I Love | | I know I mentioned that I love Rascal Flatts, and I do. I also love classic rock. You see, I was born in 1960. I had two older sisters. One was four years older and the other eight years older. I was listening to Led Zepplin (hmmmm is that two p's or one?) when I was two! I grew up surrounded by it and it became me. I listen to Ozzie on 8-Track tapes. My all time favorite classic rock band is Grand Funk Railroad. My walls were wallpapered with their posters and pictures. I saw them live in 1974 in Providence, RI. I was 13 and it was AWESOME. I had bought two tickets from the Music Box in Newport, RI. That is where I used to buy all my albums as a teen, and my diamond needles for my stereo. Great band! Great concert! | |

| | I kept getting lost! | | Yep. I spent most of the first day on board trying to find my friends. The passenger service on the ship does not give out cabin numbers so, brightness here, managed to lose the paper that gave the cabin numbers and phone numbers. Sixteen floors an d I was lost and 30O people on board. when I was hungry I ate with charming people and I was only found when I went back to my cabin to change and they had left a note on my door. Big sigh of relief.I need to tell you that this is not a blond thing I have going. I have been getting lost all my life as I have no sense of direction. It became embarrassingas when I was on shore people from the ship would come up to me and ask me if I was lost again! Newport, was good. In Boston I got lost and a kind man drove me back to the ship. Bar Harbor was one of the prettiest places that I have ever seen and I was almost lost as I got separated from my friends - but they found me. St. John's in Brunswick in Canada was incredible and I have to do a separate post about Halifax in Nova Scotia as I had an amazing experience. Oh yes, I got lost there too!I would go into an elevator and people ask me if I was lost.It was a wonderful vacation but... | |
| | will you wave to me? | | The time for my vacation on a cruise ship is coming closer. I arrive in New York at 5:00 am on August 28th. Yes that is right. 5 am in he morning.[em]thumbdown[/em] A terrible time to arrive anywhere but the fare was so much cheaper.[em]thumbup[/em]So we are going to drop luggage off at the hotel and do something before we can check in. Then we will sleep for a few hours in the afternoon before meeting up with everyone else who will be on the trip. We will go to China Town and out for dinner. We sail August 29th from New York.Places that I will be visiting include Newport, Boston, Bar Harbor, and then onto Canada, namely St. John and Halifax.I am going on a few scheduled tours as I would like to see the whales and also the Titanic Museum. Most of the time I will be hopping on trolleys and buses to see everything. These shore trips can be very costly. So do any of you live in these places? If so, will you come out and wave to me? | |

S. economic activity higher than expected in June.It was the third straight monthly increase for the New York-based Conference Board’s index of leading economic indicators, and another sign pointing toward the recession ending later this year. The index rose 0.7 percent last month. Wall Street analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected a gain of 0.4 percent. May’s reading was revised up to a gain of 1.3 percent from 1.2 percent, while April was scaled back to 1 percent growth from 1.1 percent. The group also said activity in the six-month period through June rose 2 percent, with an annual growth rate of 4.1 percent. That’s the strongest rate since the first quarter of 2006.The index is meant to project economic activity in the next three to six months.
