| | Stars rock around the world for climate change | | Stars rock around the world for climate changeLONDON (Reuters) - The Red Hot Chili Peppers led dozens of pop stars performing at Live Earth concerts around the world on Saturday to persuade fans and governments to go green.
Crowds poured into venues in Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hamburg and Johannesburg to hear Linkin Park, Rihanna, Shakira, Crowded House, Kumi Koda and many others perform and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore call for action on climate change.
Genesis, Razorlight and Snow Patrol kicked off the event at London's Wembley Stadium, leading a star-studded cast there including Madonna, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Spinal Tap, who will play before a less-then-capacity crowd of around 63,000.
Corinne Bailey Rae sang "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)," Marvin Gaye's 1971 environment classic, and sets alternated with short videos about climate change and tips on how to slow it.
Following the model of Live Aid in 1985 and Live 8 in 2005, Live Earth hopes to reach up to two billion people through radio, television and the Internet.
"As a parent I want a decent world for my kids to grow up in and if we can draw attention to this and make people start doing the...

'American Idol' star plagued by feud with record exec, tour cancellationNEW YORK - Following a multiplatinum, Grammy-winning album can be a daunting task for any artist. Kelly Clarkson's path to releasing her latest CD, "My December," has been especially torturous.First there was word that record mogul Clive Davis, who overseas her record label, RCA, didn't like the direction of the upcoming album. Then reports buzzed about a feud between the two over control of it. Her first single, "Never Again," had a respectable but unremarkable run on the charts. Soon, her manager was gone and she canceled her upcoming tour due to slow ticket sales. While Clarkson has gotten plenty of publicity, it's doubtful it's the kind of media campaign the 25-year-old intended. But industry watchers say its doubtful, too, that the turmoil will lead to the industry's dreaded f-word — flop.Sean Ross, who tracks the radio industry for Edison Media Research, said that so far the only problem Clarkson's faced is not achieving a No. 1 single out of the gate."It's sort of extraordinary to me that this much judgment has been passed before everyone...

From Beyoncé to Avril Lavigne, female music stars are uniformly sexy
Updated: 6:34 p.m. ET May 17, 2007
NEW YORK - She was an “amazing talent,” a young singer with a wonderful voice who wrote beautiful songs. But she was no beauty, plus flat-chested and overweight to boot.
Remembering the aspiring star, music executive Jody Gerson still feels terrible about thinking: “She’s never going to get signed, even though she’s fabulous.”
Gerson might feel even worse after Wednesday night’s exit of the matronly Melinda Doolittle from “American Idol.” In today’s music industry, Plain Janes need not apply. Sex appeal was once considered a bonus for a woman; now it’s practically a requirement.
Doolittle and the heavyset, gap-toothed LaKisha Jones were widely considered this season’s most talented “Idol” contestants. Yet both were eliminated from the final four in favor of Blake Lewis, who makes the teen girls swoon, and the long-locked, 17-year-old looker Jordin Sparks.
A quick check of the Billboard Top 40 turns up a list of candidates for “America's Top Model”: Avril Lavigne, blonde stunner Carrie Underwood; tomboyish but sexy Ciara,...
| | Who would James Morrison suit with a duet? | | With an amazing voice like his, one could only imagine who he should do a duet with. I think it should be an English female singer. Perhaps Corinne Bailey Rae. Now that would be a beautiful combination of rugged and smooth soul rock. | |
| | sweet vocal charm | | Corinne Bailey Rae is a new artist that I found to stand out as very unique and fresh. Her melodies create memorable moments as she sings about reminiscing romance. I've seen her perform live on television and she does a flawless job adding grace and sweetness to it. Music just flows out from her naturally and attracted me as one of my favorite new artists. I have her album and I treasure it because she sounds beautiful in her way. I wonder when her new album will be coming out if there will be one? What other artists can others recommend me to listen to that also like Corinne? I also like John Legend and Amel Larrieaux. Anybody have any information as to when are there next releases that I can look forward to? | |
| | Bailey Rae Ready To Write For Second Album | | Corinne Bailey Rae is enjoying her time on the road with John Legend these days, but the British singer says she's looking forward to getting back home and starting work on the follow-up to her self-titled platinum 2006 Capitol debut album."When I get back from this tour I'm going to have quite a big break," Rae tells Billboard.com, "and over that time I guess I'll start writing and starting to get my head in that mode again, going from performing all the time and doing lots of promotion to actually being more creative again. I'm really looking forward to writing more. I can't wait for that -- for the next phase of things."Nevertheless, Rae is enjoying opening for Legend, an early supporter whose audience has given her "a really good response, standing ovations and everything. It's a good match; I think his audience really appreciates what we do. They're quite open-minded. They like things that aren't in a box or limited to one style."Rae will tour with Legend through May 4. She then heads to New Orleans for a May 5 show at Tipitina's Uptown and will play the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis the following day. Afterward, there are two months off on the schedule... | |
