myLot Discussions | | Are a huge MOTOWN fan? | | I love Motown oldies. I especially liked the old Jackson 5 songs, the Temptations, the Ol' Jays, Marvin Gaye and Al Green. Songs that were sung in that day in time were so real and full of realities of the life that was taking place at that time. Now I think music simply tries to hard to go back to that era of time. There are few musical hits out today with real messages outside of gospel. Something that is simple, has a good message and a nice rhythm to it. Am I asking for too much?Although I used to like the oldies in Motown music, I rarely listen to it nowadays, except when I hear it in the grocery store or supermarket intercom system. I practically know ever lyric even though I do listen to it on a regular basis. What about you, are there any MOTOWN fans out there on mylot? What were some of your oldie jams and do you still listen to them today?

| | What in the world is going on? What could make a person do this??? | | Okay friends, hello and I just have to ask this question, now that I've read something that brought it to my attention. What in the world could make a person kill their children? I mean I know that we all have problems at times but to kill another person and especially someone as innocent as a child, God forbid? I know that sometimes children can get on our nerves as parents especially if they won't do what we ask but never in a million years would I think about doing something like that but it seems like some people don't give it a second thought. Tell me somebody please, what is happening in our world today? Like Marvin Gaye used to sing, what's going on? Tell me what's going on somebody please to make a person do something like that?[em]sad[/em] | |
| | Five tricks to start a new relationship | | 1.Choose a dramatic setting for your first date, such as a roller coaster,or go to see a nerve-jangling movie such as Fatal Attraction.Scientists suspect the buzz of adrenaline this causes ia confused with the thrill of attraction.
2.Mirror the other person's gestures, for example by taking a sip of your drink at the same time.Research shows that copying the other person helps create a feeling of affinity.
3.Share a joke or engineer a comic situation such as learning new dance steps while one of you is blindfolded.Scientists found an experience that makes you laugh creates a feeling of closeness.
4.Get the soundtrack right. It has long been said that music is the food of love and many people will turn to romantic tunes such as those by Marvin Gaye or Barry White to create the right mood.Rock music has also been proved to work.

| | My age and my Profile | | I will be 60 next month. Will my profile update on its own or am i going to have to edit my profile? I will sometimes check other mylotters profiles but it is not something I always do. If it has something to do with older cars or older music I might check ou a profile of who started the discussion because if they are only in their early 20's they might not recall Ford Pinto or Marvin Gaye so I might not bring them up. This will be my first birthday since my brother passed away. Hed always took me out for my birthday so far as birthdays go I will never celebrate another one. | |
| | Bring back Motown soul music | | Marvin Gaye, Supremes, Four Tops, Temptations, Jackson Five, The Crystals, etc. those were the days when the melody and MOOD captivated your soul. Everyone could relate to the words and these people had TRUE TALENT. No synthesizers or women dressed up like playboy to sell a record. The stars wore great clothes, bedecked in all their satin finery and the women chiffon gowns and attitude. Why Berry Gordy dissolved Motown is unbelievable. My favorite singer of soul and pop is STEVIE WONDER. I was thirteen years old in the summer of 1963 when my family and I were in our country home in Narrowsburg and "FINGERTIPS" blared from every radio station. There was FINGERTIPS 1 and 2. Fingertips had Stevie singing and playing the harmonica, while Fingertips 2 was mainly instrumental. The Tymes had a hit with "WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL" which I would dance to in the living room when my family was out. lol. These classic soul artists are TRUE ARTISTS and not fabricated faux entertainers of today. The Motown Magic of yesterday is timeless and will never go away. Mr. Gordy, you owe us an apology. | |
| | Are the best records just as good as a complete book? | | I was thinking the other day, a good record.
What would define the good record?
That's a lot of answers right there, but i think a good record should be just as entertaining as a good book, a good movie, a nice piece of art, a good article in the newspaper etc.
Who has peaked such heights, many individual answers probably.
But which albums are doomed to be a classic?Let Me Start:
Marvin Gaye - Whats Going On.
Political, personal & never goes out of date. Soul with high complexity, deep and personal. The melodies stands to the lyrics, it's different & still commercial.
I just can't find a record to compare with this one. Therefore i think it's a classic.Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life.
Complex and different. Has loads of songs in it and reminds me of a itunes playlist.
Still it shows how it was living that life, the whole album has a red thread around it. The melodies & the lyrics goes hand in hand, it is interesting from beginning to the end. "Loves in need of love" is a great opening track and takes the focus to what it's all about. Curtis Mayfield - Superfly.
Wow, if i could write an album i could dance, shout, sing, cry and make love to at once....
