| | | Bring back Motown soul music | | Marvin Gaye, Supremes, Four Tops, Temptations, Jackson Five, The Crystals, etc. those were the days when the melody and MOOD captivated your soul. Everyone could relate to the words and these people had TRUE TALENT. No synthesizers or women dressed up like playboy to sell a record. The stars wore great clothes, bedecked in all their satin finery and the women chiffon gowns and attitude. Why Berry Gordy dissolved Motown is unbelievable. My favorite singer of soul and pop is STEVIE WONDER. I was thirteen years old in the summer of 1963 when my family and I were in our country home in Narrowsburg and "FINGERTIPS" blared from every radio station. There was FINGERTIPS 1 and 2. Fingertips had Stevie singing and playing the harmonica, while Fingertips 2 was mainly instrumental. The Tymes had a hit with "WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL" which I would dance to in the living room when my family was out. lol. These classic soul artists are TRUE ARTISTS and not fabricated faux entertainers of today. The Motown Magic of yesterday is timeless and will never go away. Mr. Gordy, you owe us an apology. | |
| | Another soul music legend dies | | Four Tops base singer Levi passed away a few days ago. This is very sad. I grew up in an era where you either liked roul or soul and R&B. I loved the soul groups and singers. I know I will sound really old to some BUT....."now that was music." Four Tops, Temptations, Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles are just a few. The music was so good and some of the tragedys they went through were so heartbreaking. What were some of your favorites in music if you are a baby boomer? | |
| | wow what a night i had last night, it was BRILLIANT, | | Last night i went back to work after a few weeks off after quitting my other job, i did the same work but just somewhere else, a friend had called to see if i could do her party for her, being a singer/dj/karaoke host, i jumped at it, her name is Lily and she is 50, but she wanted the 70's theme, you know, big hair, flared trousers that cut you in half, platform shoes etc etc.....anyways i gets there people turned up in full attire, affro's as big as candy floss, bright colours, star shaped sunglasses, the whole hog....anyways as the night was getting on the place became packed out, the dance floor was not empty once, i was playing all that 70's disco music and everyone had a fantastic time, i took some pics of the people who came in fancy dress and i really want to share them with you, it took me back to when i was a kid back in the 70's and just for a few hours i had gotten back my youth, it was brilliant, that time of my life was great because i loved the music that was in at that time, i loved the colourful clothes and the hair styles, so last night i was in my element, so i would love you to see these people in full party attire....[em]lol[/em][em]lol[/em] even some lads... | |
| | Legends of the Fifties and Sixties | | So how many of you are Motown and Old Time Rock N Roll Lovers? Share your Memories on all the Motown Sounds you remember and all the concerts you can remember. As for me, the list is way to long to remember all of the Great Bands from then that I saw. But, I must say I was born late in the 50's so I missed a good majority of the legends of the sounds of Old Time Soul and Rock n Roll. My list starts with Little Richard, Temptations, Ojay's, Four Tops, Al Green, Turtles, Bobby Sherman, Monkees, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Neil Sadaka, Tiny Tim, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Tom Jones,,James Brown, Spinners, Paul Anka, Bobby Daren and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and last but not least The Beach Boys. From the time I was 14, I knew this was the Era I should have been born. Attending The Ohio State Fair and seeing all these wonderful bands in concert every summer for free. It was the greatest most fond memories I can remember. I have this Great Love for music, and cherish every bit of it. This is what makes me happy the most. Good Music to dance to, sing too, and keep me smiling. | |
